Originally trained as an architect, Chiara Mensa is an Italian-born designer and self-taught printmaker who has been developing her practice since 2022. Her eclectic collection of work is unified by her love for the natural world and interest in the detailed observation of her surroundings, from animals and plants to inanimate objects and patterns.
Chiara’s main focus is the creation of original art prints from carved linoleum blocks that she handprints from her Bristol home studio using a tabletop press or humble wooden spoon. She truly enjoys the slow making that comes with carving and hand-printing linocut blocks, embracing the tactile quality and individuality that traditional printmaking brings. Overall, her goal as an artist is to share her love of nature and encourage others to see the beauty in the world around them.
Chiara’s work can be purchased through her online shop, as well as in a few Independent shops around Bristol (5acre Farm Shop, Artigo, The Ethical Gift Shop). As an independent artist, she also regularly participates in markets and Art Trails around Bristol, where the public can browse and purchase directly from the artists showcasing their work. A list of all upcoming events she will be taking part in can be found on her website at https://chiaramensa.square.site/events
Chiara’s work has been exhibited in group shows in Bristol, exploring themes of nature, pollinators, and seasonal rituals. In this exhibition at the Grain Barge, she will be showcasing a selection of her original nature-themed lino prints alongside new work with a more minimalistic focus. All prints will be available to purchase.
